Hello all:
What I am going to suggest here should be legal, provided that someone else is paying for the internet. For instance, let us just assume that you know someone without internet access, but you want to grant them this privilege through your network connection. This is otherwise known as Internet Sharing. Usually, a WAN would be used for this purpose, but how would others connect directly to ones router and be able to access the connection? Curious if any of you know the answer. Thanks.
Perfectly legal.
Depending on how far the person is from the main router, or box, all is required is the person that is payings password to their network.
Example, if my network is called july all the person needs do is find my network and click join and type my password.
Now they are using it.
You can buy poosters that are wireless or an antenna to bootst your wireless signal reach.
Some routers, or boeses have a feature that allows for longer reach as well.
Just place your router or box as close to them or mid way between both parties and you got it going on.
Wayne. I am referring to a person that does not have internet access. Can someone use Command Prompt and log on to a remote server?
Nathan.
Hi.
in this example i am about to give, you have a Internet connection with a
Wlan connected to your router.
Now all the other person have to do is to find your Wireless access point, log
on, and Bingo! that is it.
If it is not what you are meaning i am confused.
Hello Sandi:
What I am referring to is granting access for others to access a router without an internet connection, establish a connection through Command Prompt thereby connecting to the internet wherever a user is.
Anyone know why Ventrilo is no longer accessible to Jaws?
Maybe I miss understand.
Let me see if I have it correct.
A person has no internet.
Another person has an internet connection.
The [person with access wants to share with the person that doesn't have it at all?
No matter how you slice this, anyone without access has to be close enough to someone else with access that allows them to sign on.
It be like going to Starbucks. You walk in with your device, you sit down and your device finds available networks.
You click Starbucks, and agree to terms.
Now you have access.
Is that what you mean?
Yes. Exactly.
Hi.
So let me make this very clear, if the person who have no internet access is
so close too you he can see your SSID on your wifi router, you are golden, if
that is not the case it can not be done as Reel said in a post before this one.
Actually it was not what he said but I'm sure it was what he would have said,
if he had thought about it, so the conclution, for this debate is, yes if he is
close enough he can do it, if that is not the case, he is out of luck, sorry.
Yes. If they are close enough, it can be done, if not no.
It is as simple as my first post describes.
It isn't geeky at all, sort of simple really.
hi, no it is not geeky at all, but of course if you say a really geeky question
more will respond, right? we ought to have a forum for computer newbies as
well so we don't get bothered with these questions at all, what is worse if he
had half a brain he could have googled all of this, but it appears that not
many blind people does this.
I am not saying that many is as bad as Hardy, but oh well
It is always fair to ask questions. The Zone is a great place for information.
Reel you are right it is always fair to ask questions, but still 4 seconds with
google could have answered this, i can’t help but think about how he will fare if
he wants a higher education.
You are obviously seeing it from another view and that is great too
Google isn't as sweet as you Sandi. Much better to get your advice. Smile.
does the feminine thing, and roles her blue grey eyes and groans softly
Actually, Google and similar search engines have taken a back seat to social networks when it comes to search results and queries these days. It seems people would rather get answers from people they know to some extent. This seems a better explanation than just laziness. Applying just a bit of Occam's Razor here.
Wow, harsh much? I do agree that a query like this would have been better suited for a search engine, but I don't think it was exactly necessary to question the OP's intelligence just because he didn't spend 3 minutes with Google.
